Role of Emergency Room in U.S. HealthcareThere is no doubt that there is a need to deter the emergency department’s non-urgent use. However, it is equally important to understand why people use the emergency department for non-urgent use. I would recommend that all the stakeholders come on board and understand why people seek non-urgent emergency departments and ensure that there are evidence-based interventions and are very well-tailored to the needs of the populations required to serve (Kongovi et al., 2013).I believe emergency rooms play a vital role because they provide emergency and other services to patients that need urgent attention. Also, excessive healthcare spending, needless testing and treatment, and weakened patient-primary care provider relationships may result from using the Emergency Department for non-urgent conditions. In the healthcare system, emergency rooms perform a critical role. This is mainly because they provide services to both outpatients and inpatients. They also go a long way in delivering specialized healthcare that is not easily accessible at physicians’ offices. The emergency room is well equipped with personnel that can address many health issues. The emergency department is always open twenty-four hours a day. Also, in the emergency room, the personnel is expected to serve every individual despite their socio-economic status. Therefore, there is a need for the government to ensure that healthcare is affordable to all of its citizens.
