Jazz and her sister, Lynda, are 17-year-old twins. Jazz is white, and Lynda is black. They have been close since they were toddlers. They confide in each other and share everything. Their parents have always encouraged them to embrace their differences. Jazz and Lynda are currently seniors in high school and are making plans for college in the fall.
Jazz has been accepted to three colleges of her choice: a small, private liberal arts college (College A), a large public university (College B), and a small, private historically black college (College C). On the other hand, Lynda has only been accepted to College A and College B. She hasn’t heard from College C yet. Both sisters want to go to different schools so that they can experience different things. However, Jazz is afraid that if she goes to College A, her sister will not enjoy it because of the lack of diversity there and will resent her for it. Lynda wants Jazz to go to the school of her choice, but she also wants to be happy wherever she goes to school.

As you have learned, race and ethnicity are important concepts that have influenced society for a long time. Race is a social construct (not a scientific one), and it is often used to classify people based on their physical appearance. However, race has no basis in biology.
